People Behind the Great Event

Seminar and Rakerda IHKA BALI 2006 was organized very well. Attended by more then 200 participant the event was the biggest that we ever had. An appreciation should be given to all of the team which was lead by Bapak Ketut Muliarta and involving all IHKA BALI Committee Period 2006 - 2009. Of course that huge event would not run well without support and contribution from member. In this event apart from IHKA Bali Committe we also have imvolved few people to be part of the team. They also have done great job and tremendous support to our oraganisation. Their profile is below:

Aghnes Pakpahan

Aghnes is former IHKA secretary for two periods. She currently works in Bali Mandira Hotel and Spa as Executive Housekeeper. She loves swimming, Body Language and Aerobic. Gospel’s music is her favorite.

In our recent Rakerda 2006 she was in charge for the registration and preparing tag for all committee and seminar participant. As a secretary of IHKA Committee for two periods almost none of our event was without her involvement. Start from Rakerda in Sahid, Hilton, Le Meridian and the recent Rakerda in Sanur Paradise Plaza. She always gives her hand to help all committee members. We all have to thank her for her dedication and contribution to our organization as no doubt that she has done an important role in all of our successful events.

This beautiful girl who was born in Surabaya has quite simple yet meaningful motto, “today should be better then yesterday”. And the thing that need to note is she is still single. If you are a single man you might try to approach her. What are the criteria? The man must be tall, macho, smart, and intelligent and of course should earn money more then her. The last criteria is from me, just to make yourself more confident.

Syamsudin

In our Rakerda 2006 Abang Syam has taken quite big role. Responsible for our main event in the ball room start from preparing the run down event end with supervising all activities in the ball room on the date of the event. His expertise and his experience in arranging seminar have contributed tremendously to make our event successfully run as expected.

Want to know who is he? He is the Executive Housekeeper of The Viceroy Ubud when we held the Rakerda 2006. And the good news is when I am writing this, he is just promoted to be a Resident Manager in his lovely property. But his career is not automatically bright like now. The same as most of us he started his career from the position of Room Attendant in Century Park Hotel Jakarta, our capital city where he was born and grown up. Resigned from this property he joined with Accor Ibis Slipi to be Housekeeping Supervisor.

His eagerness to work in five star hotel was the motivation when he resigned from this property to join Borobudur Intercontinental. Here his position was Floor Supervisor. Interested to work in cruise ship, he left the country to work in cruise ship only for one year. After experiencing to work both on cruise ship and inland he came out with conclusion that working inland is more enjoyable for him. He then decided to take the position in Rosewood Darmawangsa, a boutique hotel in Jakarta. After one year in this hotel he was hired by Alila Jakarta as Assistant Executive Housekeeper. After two years in this property he got information that there was vacancy in Bali, the island that many people dream of. Puri Wulandari, one property in Ubud was the resorts that hired him as Executive Housekeeper. When the beautiful Viceroy due to open he was hired to be Executive Housekeeper as the company need someone who has experience to set up Villa Style property. As I said before now he is just promoted to Resident Manager.

Where your next step will be abang Syam? “Only God knows. Life is unpredictable. But as long as we alive we should make sure that our life is meaningful to other people” he said with smile.
Wherever he will be in the future, the most important thing is he loves his live; he is enjoying being hotelier and loves housekeeping.
Become a member of IHKA Bali is very meaningful for him. As he can improve his knowledge, sharing information, new friends, building network, socialize etc. He will never forget this organization wherever he goes.

If you ever meet him you might don’t believe that the sport that he loves most is Taek Won Do. But this is the fact. Holding black belt, he even won several tournament in Jakarta when he was teenage. So please be careful and behave. Unfortunately he was still single. Still hunting. If you are a single lady, his mobile phone is always on. His criteria are smart, sexy, charming, inner beauty. “Happy hunting abang Syam, hope you will find one in Bali”.

A.A Sri Laxmi Aryani

Ibu Agung is a committee member of Rakerda IHKA Bali 2006. Giving lots of advises and ideas to make the event done successfully.
She currently works in Sanur Beach Hotel as an Executive Housekeeper however her experience in tourism industry is not only in housekeeping department. In fact she has background in many other departments. Her career history is very inspiring. She started her step in the industry in 1972 in Japanese YUZURU Restaurant and then joined Sanur Beach Hotel as F&B receptionist in 1974. She was transferred to Front Office Department two years later to take several roles until she was promoted to Assistant Front Office Manager. In 1981 she moved to Sales and Public Relation. Her last position in this department was Sales Manager. In 1991 she was given opportunity to come back to front office department to take a challenging position as Front Office Manager. She managed front office department of this hotel for 11 years. In 2002 another challenge was offered to her by the manager. Has no background to work in housekeeping department she has to manage this most tiring department as an Executive Housekeeper. She managed housekeeping for only one year and then in 2003 she left this beautiful island to Lombok to take the top position as General Manager of Senggigi Beach Hotel & Pool Villa Club, a position that everyone dream of.

What will you do when you are in love? You will do whatever possible. Won’t you? It happened to this incredible lady. Because of her love to Bali she decided to come back to her homeland in 2005 although she has to take her previous position as Executive Housekeeper in Sanur Beach Hotel. Until now she is still there. Become a mom for all of her staffs.

Ibu Agung is a great motivator for her friends. If you ask her to share her experiences she will proudly tell you about her interesting experiences which all are very motivating.
She will tell you the story about her first time training in Sari Pan Pacific Jakarta in 1979. Imagine… it was shocking at that time as tourism was just about started where the occupancy was only about 20 % average. The work load and speed was just in comparable to resort hotel. But by the grace of the GOD everything was successfully done without any difficulties.
If you would like to know more interesting one she then will tell you when she first time attended the Top Reza annual tourism event in Paris. Being first time traveling to Europe she learned a lot of things from pre-registration process, decorating the booth, take underground metro transportation etc, etc,

If those are not enough and want to know further more she will freely tell you about her experience in several occasions such as inaugural Garuda Indonesia flight to Osaka, Pata Travel Mart in Adelaide, and Sales trip to Melbourne, Garuda Indonesia Anniversary to Bangkok and much more. Even she will tell you about her most exiting memories when traveling to Europe for holiday with family. It is interesting to know how she explored all beautiful and super modern countries such as Holland, Germany, Belgium, France, and United Kingdom not just by air plane but also by train, bus, and even across the sea by ferry. What a wonderful and unforgettable holiday, isn’t it?

Is she being snobby when telling this to all of us? No…..she is not. She just would like to give motivation to all of us. In one occasion she told me that in whatever field we work we have to make an effort to get the top. After achieving the highest position, it doesn’t matter whether we want to stay or decide to step down.

If you are a lady and want to balance your success both in career and life then ibu Agung is a model. Even though her motto is “let life flow like water” but she has successfully balanced her achievement in career with her personal life as wife and as a mother. Her endless love to her family is reflected by her effort to facilitate excellence education to both her son and daughter. Her son has graduated from International Affair of Social and Politic Faculty, Indonesia University Jakarta and now is working in Foreign Department under Minister of Hasan Wirayuda.
Her daughter has graduated from French Roman of Letter Faculty, Indonesia University Jakarta and now is working in Grand Hyatt Jakarta.

Ibu Agung. Thank you very much for your involvement in the committee of Rakerda IHKA Bali 2006. We learned a lot of things from you.
